Pamela Anderson

Posted by - January 25, 2011 - Celebrity Homestyles, Real Estate

Where would this stunning actress live besides the beach Mecca of North America? No where but Malibu, California. Home to Pamela and her two sons is a bungalow with a comfortable sense of today’s zip with yesterdays qualities. Floral prints, cabana stripes, and the ever changing rugs keep her home from getting dated. Rounding out the California chic look are collections of antique crystal stemware and wicker furniture.

A tireless renovator, her signature look permeates every room. With a knack for making art from her sons age-specific drawings and her own hobby of black and white photography, no room is untouched by the Pamela design stamp. To balance the feminine look for her boys, she goes white-slip-cover-basic to cleanse her visual senses, so later she can reinvent her space.

As an on-the-go mother, nothing is too pretty to use. Dinner parties feature a large array of her passion for collectible china, positioned on beautiful tablecloths from an extensive accumulation on exotic shopping trips. The outdoors play a big part in how Pamela defines herself, and laying out to catch the magnificent California rays are a featured pastime. Big luxury towels form the backdrop for oversized pillows, littered with books and magazines, complete this Baywatch star’s sun bathing must-haves.

Candice Bergen

Emmy award winning actress Candice Bergen easily transplanted her West Coast casualness into a home she shares with husband Marshall Rose in East Hampton. Transporting her easy interior design look into this handsome shingle-style home sited on lush ample grounds took some adaptation from both the architect and Mr. Rose who had a long history with the home. When Bergen came into Rose’s life, the bones of their country home were stark and the living spaces were divided into a formal plan. With help from a noted urban interior designer, Bergen accomplished her goal of lightening, harmonizing and relaxing, what is still a “statement house.”

Long covered verandas provide outside dining and entertaining areas, back-dropped by expansive windows which flood the interior with natural light. Deeply cushioned chairs and sofas, oodles of books, and splashes of color make this a coveted destination for Bergen and Rose. Texture is an important ingredient here, carpets, wall hangings and draperies, though never heavy, add a warmth and scale to what could be a voluminous building. Carefully selected accessories compliment and add interest throughout a home that oozes style, but one that beckons you to interact and luxuriate in it.

Meredith Vieira

Home-as-a-refuge will never be more important to Meredith Viera while she completes the transition from ensemble member on the popular The View to the stratosphere of day time television as co-host of The Today Show. Tucked away in the Hudson River Valley, far enough away from Manhattan to provide a oriented home for her husband and three children, is a Italian style home that says yields a comfortable elegance.

Contemplating a major expansion of her home, Viera seized the opportunity to redefine both the homes style and her own need to shift away from country-Tuscan to European elegance. The home is centered around a courtyard, and not a small one. Airy, roomy outdoors spaces perform a variety of functions. An outdoor covered kitchen and dining area provide a place for friends and family to taste the flavors of food and wine. A substantial fireplace anchors a comfortable open-air seating area. Authentic rough slate tiles and gray gravel provide the dramatic flooring backdrop for assorted pergolas, raised and at-grade gardens. Enclosed on several sides by the stucco two-story elevations with substantial wood doors, windows, shutters and topped with a red tile roof, you feel a million miles from New York City.

Interior rooms reflect the new attitude of Viera and husband, the writer Richard Cohen. With a mix of classical moldings and trim, random-width and standard hardwood floors, the color palette features creamy tones and masculine touches. An occasional design edge is featured through stunning furniture selections, finished with art from today and yesteryear. French doors with Julliette balconies peppered through the house bring the outside in. Just thinking about drapes blowing in the wind at Viera’s home says refuge to me.

Giorgio Armani

World famous designer Giorgio Armani escapes the hustle and bustle of the epicenter of fashion to his Caribbean sun-palace on Antigua. Perched on a rocky hillside, the cluster of buildings consist of a main home and numerous villas for guests. Adopting the architectural footprint from previous owners, Armani tweaked and embellished it in his low-key palette of deep browns, taupe’s, and light natural colors. With painting-perfect views of the most beautiful sun-drenched waters in the world, he wanted to create a soothing backdrop inside for the drop-dead world seen through expansive porches and terraces outside. Classic but sleek wide-slatted black shutters control the sun and filter light inside gracious contemporary rooms with wood peaked and planked ceilings. Parsons style tables, minimal but statement accessories, and bleached muslin paired with gray linen fabrics say cool in more ways than one.

Outdoor rooms dominate the property, with numerous wood decks, walkways and stairs lead to private areas to take in the sun, a dip in the pool or settle in with a favorite book. Tropical landscaping provides the back bone in detail that isn’t fussy or overdone. Comfy outdoor furniture that features deep seated chairs and plenty of pillows allows the couturier to relax in a temporary time-out from the demands of his global business. Armani himself in his handsome signature black clothes and permanently-tanned Italian body is a man that knows international design and practices it in way that is never trend-driven, but timeless.

Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece

Princess Marie-Chantal’s title might communicate a life of leisure and tradition. Make no mistake, this is not your ordinary modern princess. With four young children plus a successful clothing line, she went looking for a new home with husband Prince Pavlos of Greece. The new home search also included a Trans-Atlantic move to England following a stint in New York. Possessing a fresh new-century maturity, this cutting edge business woman and mother wanted a refuge from their whirlwind life when she finally arrived home from abroad or the office.

Their not-so-new refuge turned out to be a wonderful circa 1700′s home in London. Princess Marie-Chantel with the assistance of French designer Francois Catroux created a calming mix of serene-toned hues, magnificent contemorary artwork and the occasional cutting-edge surprise. Ebony stained floors contrast heavy moldings and trim work. Mile-high ceilings with matching windows dictated a scale of furnishings that include lacquered chairs, velvet sofas, eclectic lamps and abundant photographs of their royal and personal life. Their home is a success in that it avoids being regal, but at the same time framing their urbane and worldly sophistication.

Helen Mirren

Posted by - April 25, 2010 - Celebrity Homestyles, Real Estate

Their shotgun-style house in New Orleans’ lower French Quarter is as polar opposite as Helen Mirren’s palace digs in her Academy Award winning role portraying Queen Elizabeth ll in the 2006 blockbuster hit; “Queen”. Mirren shares her home here with husband Taylor Hackford, director of many successful films. Unassuming from the street, the intimate side courtyard draws you into the open living, dining and kitchen space. One with high ceilings to marginalizes the steamy heat, broad, luxurious moldings and period antiques that say “stay and let’s catch up with all that’s new.”

An eclectic blend of artwork ranging from old portraits to African busts complement the hand woven rugs, wrought iron tables, cushy day beds and sofas. Warm and light paint colors provide a backdrop for Mirren and Hackford to unwind from professional demands that span the globe. French doors with transom windows are a recurring architectural feature in the bedroom wing, where a love of dramatic color surfaces. Vintage beds found on vagabond trips into the southern countryside are focal points and contrast starkly against the Hunter Green and Sunshine Yellow walls. Mirren and Hackford’s New Orleans’ low-key refuge from the formality of England speaks more about their sensibility, which here in the deep south is nothing but pure American style.
